Windy City Cycling Club
Established in 1992 by founding member Steve Ford, Windy City Cycling Club (WCCC) emerged as a vital community for the LGBT biking enthusiasts in Chicago. In its inaugural year, WCCC merged with a pre-existing gay and lesbian biking group linked to the Chicago Professional Networking Association (CPNA). The initial president, Steve Ford, handed over the reins in 1994 to David Niemeyer, the current president since 2023.
WCCC has navigated through various phases, witnessing periods of high interest at its inception, followed by years of low membership and reduced activity in 1993 and 1994. Recent years have seen a resurgence, credited to the unwavering dedication of a core group that expanded the ride schedule, broadened club activities, and introduced new events.
Significant milestones include acquiring the domain www.windycitycyclingclub.com in 2002 and revamping the website in 2003. The introduction of a members-only group mailing list in 2004 enhanced communication. Celebrating its 15th year in 2007, WCCC launched a new website with online enrollment, member-only access, and social network presence on Facebook (2011), Twitter (2014), Meetup (2015), and Instagram (2019).
As WCCC marks its 30th anniversary in 2022, we invite you to join us on a ride and be a part of our rich history and vibrant community!
