Since its inception on May 31, 1974, The Knickerbikers of San Diego County have been synonymous with the joy and freedom of bicycle touring. Established by 43 charter members, the club was founded on the principle that regular bicycle touring experiences could be offered without the encumbrances of rigid rules or institutional structures.

Our club deliberately remains unorganized, with no rules, regulations, or formal officers—except for our tongue-in-cheek representative office of Knickercommander, the club servant. The essence of The Knickerbikers lies in simplicity, embodying the spirit of riding bikes for the sheer love of it.

Every Saturday and Sunday morning, we embark on day trips throughout San Diego County, covering a spectrum of routes, including both road and mountain biking adventures. The rides vary in length and pace, typically ranging from 30 to 60 miles, offering a delightful mix of scenery and camaraderie.

Beyond local day trips, The Knickerbikers organize tours that span two days to three weeks, exploring scenic destinations across the U.S. and around the world. Recent tours have taken our members to breathtaking locales such as Montana, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, New Mexico, the Canadian Rockies, Hawaii, Washington, Wisconsin, Ireland, France, Arizona, Coastal California loops, Shasta, North and South Dakota, Colorado, Texas, and many more.

At the heart of The Knickerbikers' philosophy are two founding principles: the joy of being noticed and the fun of rediscovering the carefree spirit of childhood. As we continue to ride our bikes, explore new horizons, and share the love for cycling, The Knickerbikers remain a symbol of freedom, camaraderie, and the pure joy of pedal-powered adventures.
