The history of North Point Trails in Virginia Key is a fascinating journey from its humble, illegal beginnings to a thriving mountain biking haven. Originating as illicit trails created by ATV's and dirt bikes, the city eventually shut down these unauthorized paths. However, a turning point came with the Virginia Key Master Plan Meeting, where a group of mountain bikers painted a compelling picture of repurposing an old dump and dredge disposal area into legitimate mountain bike trails in Miami.

Seven years ago, Bernard Riviere, affectionately known as Frenchy, stepped into the overgrown jungle that was Virginia Key at the time. Armed with an orange spray can, he began marking the trails. Frenchy, often considered the architect of Virginia Key, had a unique vision for trail-building, and despite initial challenges, he played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape.

Frenchy's ability to design trails where no one had ventured before set the stage for the transformation of Virginia Key. Even today, he continues to guide the trail-building process, using a spray can to convey intricate plans to fellow enthusiasts.

Seven years into this transformative journey, Virginia Key boasts over 7.5 miles of remarkable trails. The effort behind this achievement is a testament to the dedication of the mountain biking community, with over 21,000 volunteer hours invested in trail development. The Virginia Key Bike Club (V.K.B.C) has thrived, accumulating over 450 members who renew their memberships annually, creating a vibrant and engaged community of mountain biking enthusiasts. This success story highlights the power of vision, passion, and community collaboration in turning an abandoned area into a thriving mountain biking destination.
