About this club

The Unione Sportiva Italiana (USI) traces its roots back to 1908 when it was organized and subsequently incorporated in New York State on April 15, 1909. Initially based in Little Italy in Manhattan, the USI, translating to the Italian Sporting Union, was not solely dedicated to cycling in its early days. Instead, it served as a hub for members with diverse interests, encompassing boxing, rowing, running, basketball, and cycling.

Cycling Evolution:While catering to various sports, cycling gradually emerged as the primary focus of the club. Within the first ten years, the cycling division garnered renown, standing out as a competitive force among the finest amateur cyclists in the New York Metropolitan area.

USI's Mission:The mission of the USI, as articulated in its club constitution and bylaws, is multifaceted. It aims to "promote the general welfare socially and competitively among its members and members of similar clubs in the sport of cycling." Beyond competition, USI strives to cultivate the highest standards of fellowship and sportsmanship, develop good citizens from its participants, and instill a true sense of respect, trust, and integrity among its members.

Current Purpose:Today, the USI remains true to its founding principles. The club is committed to fostering fellowship, sportsmanship, and cycling excellence. Its purpose extends beyond competition to include the encouragement and promotion of bicycle racing, along with the facilitation of educational and training programs for both club members and the broader community. Join USI, where the legacy of a century unfolds in the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and cycling passion.
