EasyRiders (ER) began as an informal commuting group in 2006, initiated by five individuals from the north shore frustrated with traditional commuting methods into the city. Plotting a bike-friendly route from Wahroonga, they embarked on their inaugural ride on November 29, 2006. These "Founding Members" (FM's) remain active participants, with one now residing in Hong Kong.

Since its humble beginnings, EasyRiders has grown to over 200 members, often gathering 20-25 riders at Gordon for their commute. The group's primary objective, then and now, is to informally promote cycling as a safe, healthy, social, and timely alternative for commuters. The ethos is captured in their motto, "only as fast as the slowest rider," embracing cyclists of all abilities and backgrounds.

EasyRiders takes pride in its diverse mix of abilities, ranging from beginners to seasoned riders, some even participating in competitive cycling. This diversity fosters a supportive environment where knowledge and experiences are shared, and success stories abound, showcasing individuals who have transformed from occasional riders to regular commuters covering substantial distances each week.

Emphasizing road-sharing etiquette, EasyRiders encourages polite and courteous behavior in accordance with the law. While not affiliated with any specific cycling organization, many members opt for insurance through Bicycle NSW membership, which offers benefits and discounts. The group advocates for individual insurance, particularly important since workers' comp no longer covers the commute in NSW.
