Greetings cycling enthusiasts! The thrill of the open road awaits as we proudly announce that we are back in action, riding without restrictions! When our cycling tribe gathers, we'll organize into two groups if our numbers exceed thirty, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. A ten-minute interval between groups adds an extra layer of precaution, and we kindly ask riders to maintain a two-meter distance to prevent any accidents.
The unveiling of our 2024 ride schedule for January and February marks the beginning of a season filled with exciting cycling adventures. But that's not all – our regular club events provide the perfect opportunity for socializing, cycling, and indulging in the cherished tradition of coffee and tea drinking.
For our Wednesday rides, the rendezvous point is the Scout Hall car park on Pigeon Mountain Road, Half Moon Bay, at 8.50 am for a 9.00 am start. These midweek excursions typically cover distances ranging from 20 to 35km, exploring picturesque routes such as the Rotary Path along the Tamaki River, the Panmure Basin, Cascades Walkway to Burswood and Meadowlands, and many more. A delightful new addition to our repertoire is a ride to the parks in Pakuranga and a scenic route around Shelly Park, encompassing the beauty of Howick beaches and bays. Not to be missed is the Half Moon Bay Tiki Tour, a captivating journey along Bucklands Beach to Musick Point and back via Eastern Beach.
Saturday rides, known for their extended lengths, vary from 25 km to occasionally reaching 80 km. Starting locations are indicated on our rides list, providing diversity and a touch of unpredictability to our cycling adventures. And yes, every ride, whether on Wednesday or Saturday, includes a well-deserved coffee stop, creating moments for camaraderie and relaxation.
Our riding pace is leisurely, averaging between 20-25 km/h, and a significant portion of our riders now embrace the convenience of e-bikes. As you embark on a ride with us, remember to be self-sufficient – ensure your bike is well-maintained, carry a puncture repair kit, and have two spare tubes at the ready. Safety is paramount, so don your crash helmet and bring along some hydration. We encourage all riders to be considerate and careful, and a loud bike bell can be your ally in alerting walkers to your approach.
