Established in 1946 among workers in the Hawthorne and Balmoral areas of Brisbane, Balmoral Cycling Club has evolved into a symbol of cycling heritage, camaraderie, and sporting excellence.

Founding Years and White Shirt Motto:The club's origin tales include a meat-worker's strike, leading to its formation to keep workers engaged. Initially donning simple white "T" shirts as colors, the motto "WHITE SHIRT WINS IT!" became a cherished part of the club's identity.

Building Our Own Track:In the early years, lacking its own track, the club's local knowledge provided a unique advantage in road races. Eventually, they decided to construct their track at Hawthorne, demonstrating their determination to foster cycling in the community.

Hawthorne Track and Move to Murarrie:Racing continued at Hawthorne until Brisbane City Council resumed the land in 1988. The club then moved to the Murarrie Recreation Reserve, where a new track was constructed on the site of a former rubbish tip. This relocation marked a new chapter, with the council providing facilities for a thriving cycling community.

Evolution at Murarrie:Murarrie Recreation Reserve underwent changes over the years, including a complete capping and sealing operation. The club's commitment to the new home led to the construction of a clubhouse, showcasing a dedication to fostering cycling culture.

Notable Achievements and Gratitude:Throughout its history, Balmoral Cycling Club has produced notable cyclists, including World and Australian title holders, Commonwealth Games representatives, and champions at various levels. The club thrives on the passion and dedication of its volunteers, who contribute to the success of events, coaching, and community-building.
