The Rapha Cycling Club
Islington Cycling Club is a friendly and diverse North London cycling club. Founded in 2013 and have quickly attracted over 600 members. We offer a wide range of rides, including numerous weekly club rides, training rides, club and open events, and cycling trips.
We use an online forum as a virtual clubhouse to organise ourselves as this allows all members to help shape our club. Our focus is road cycling, but there is a strong contingent riding cyclocross, gravel, and track. If there is another kind of cycling you want to try, ask on the forum to see what other members are doing.
Riding with a cycling club can seem daunting at first, so we require all new and prospective members to attend one of our Introductory Rides or Group Skills sessions. These are short club rides in which we look at things such as what to carry with you, how to ride in group formations, and what all those hand signals mean. Then we head off and do an easy-paced ride to practice, followed by a café stop. You can book on to these in the Clipping In section of our club forum.
Islington Cycling Club is affiliated to British Cycling and is a Go-Ride club, so we offer coaching for young people, 8-15 years old. Visit our Youth Riding page for more information.
Club Values
Our values are our DNA, why we do what we do. They inform our decisions and our vision of cycling in London. They are inspired by our members and what we ask cyclists to aspire to when choosing us as a club.
DIVERSE & INCLUSIVE
Riding a bike is for everyone
We are committed to championing Diversity and Inclusivity within the club and the sport.
We welcome everyone irrespective of cycling ability, age, experience, gender, sexuality, race, nationality, beliefs and socio-economic circumstances.
We will actively strive to ensure that the club membership is diverse and representative of the people of London, making the sport more accessible to all.
We recommend reading the Diversity in Cycling Report written by Andy Edwards of Kingston Wheelers and supported by British Cycling.
FUN & FRIENDLY
Come, cycle and enjoy
We exist because we love cycling, and we want everyone to experience how fun it is.
We are passionate, not elitist. We nurture an environment that welcomes all levels and skills.
We want members to come as they are and create an atmosphere that we can all thrive in; whether you aspire to be a more confident cyclist, improve your fitness, train for new challenges or compete.
RESPONSIBLE & FAIR
Exemplary cycling
We are a responsible club that sets a good example for the wider cycling community.
We believe being safe and responsible in our actions is a key element for cycling together.
We are very mindful of our environmental impact and how we can influence, and be perceived by, the local community.
We are progressive, open to new ideas and welcome change that improves the club.
Our club is always looking for new members. We’d love to have you join or answer any questions that you have about the club, our membership, or our activities.
