Embark on a journey through time with Sherwood Cycling Club, founded on May 22, 1931, by a group of passionate cyclists in the Sherwood area of Nottingham. Over the years, our club has evolved, and while we no longer have exclusive ties to Sherwood, our membership draws from a broader Nottingham community.

The early days saw cyclists reveling in empty roads, with night rides to distant locales like Chester forming part of the club's adventurous spirit in 1933. The Sherwood 100-mile Open Time Trial debuted in 1938, marking a milestone in our racing history.

The Second World War briefly interrupted our activities, but by 1946, the club was back in full swing, flourishing by 1948 with the publication of the first Acorn News. The fifties ushered in golden years for cycling, emphasizing touring, club runs, and the thrill of the countryside. Road racing gained momentum, with Frank Beale representing England in the Manx international in 1950.

The sixties had their challenges, but the club regained strength, organizing Open time trials, road races, and a cyclo-cross. In 1969, we hosted the National Championship 50-mile time trial, a testament to our resilience.

The seventies marked a thriving period with strong junior participation, and Jon Kettell became the National Junior Sprint Champion. Long-distance rides and club time trials at 50 miles remained popular.

In 1981, we celebrated our Golden Jubilee with a 1000-mile sponsored relay ride, but long-distance riding interest waned in subsequent years. The introduction of the Club website in 1998 sparked a membership resurgence.

From 2000 onwards, the club embraced change with new kit designs, a revamped racing program, and a commitment to youth cycling through the "Go-Ride" initiative. Today, Sherwood Cycling Club continues to grow, welcoming a diverse membership and promoting a healthy lifestyle through cycling.
