Happy Valley BMX Club
Since its inception in the early 1980s, the Happy Valley BMX Club has been a resilient presence, operating at its original location. Initially privately owned, the club joined forces with the South Australian BMX Association in 1981, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. From humble beginnings, using a transportable caravan as a canteen towed by members, to the present-day clubrooms, the evolution reflects a passionate commitment to the BMX community.
In the early 1990s, a federal sporting grant facilitated the demolition and reconstruction of the track to a high standard. In October 2006, further improvements saw the redesign of the first, second, and third straights, with input from experienced riders familiar with world and national circuits. The result is a track accommodating both fast, high-flying legends and enthusiastic, unstoppable sprockets (riders aged 7 and under).
Happy Valley BMX Club's track has been the stage for 6 state championships (1985 with Cross Keys, 1988, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2008) and the national championships in 2001. The club proudly hosted the 7th Australian Masters Games in 1999, showcasing its importance on the BMX scene.
Over the years, the club has produced State, National, World, and Olympic Champions, as well as SABMXA Riders of the Year. The dedicated efforts of passionate parents are evident in the growing list of life members.
Excitement builds for the club's next phase of development, as plans include a move to a fantastic new venue, shared with the Cove BMX Club, with work commencing in 2017.
