Boston Cyclists Union

In the six years since the Boston Cyclists Union (BCU) last adopted a strategic plan in 2015, the organization has undergone substantial evolution. This period witnessed remarkable growth, with BCU nearly tripling its budget and experiencing proportional expansion in its dedicated staff. Simultaneously, there has been a notable shift in the bicycling advocacy space, coupled with an increasing awareness of the critical issues of climate change and congestion, elevating the public's sense of urgency.
The challenges faced by urban areas demand innovative solutions, particularly in the realms of transportation and sustainability. However, despite the growing support for bicycling and an exponential increase in ridership, the modernization of bicycle and pedestrian facilities in the region has been disappointingly sluggish. It is apparent that there exists a significant gap between where we currently stand and where we need to be to foster a more bike-friendly and people-centered city.
The formulation of the new strategic plan by BCU reflects a comprehensive understanding of the shifts both within the organization and the broader external landscape. It acknowledges the urgency of addressing climate change and congestion while recognizing the untapped potential for growth and improvement in bicycle infrastructure.
BCU extends an invitation to individuals who resonate with this vision of transforming Boston into a world-class bicycle city. The call is not merely for passive observers but for active participants ready to contribute their energy, imaginations, voices, resources, and resolve. BCU firmly believes that, with a collective effort, this ambitious vision can be realized. By uniting the community around a shared goal, BCU aims to harness the collective power needed to reshape Boston into a model city for bicycling, demonstrating the transformative impact of collaborative action.
